On Friday evening, October 22, the Garden City Real Estate Professionals Foundation (“GCRE”) hosted its annual fundraising Gala, Cocktails for a Cause at the Garden City Country Club.  With over 200 guests in attendance, a check in the amount of $140,000 was presented to Jack and Maggie Biggane, the founders of Mollies Fund, the foundation named in memory of their daughter Molly Biggane who passed away after battling skin cancer at the young age of 20.  For over twenty years Mollies Fund has been at the forefront of melanoma awareness and making a difference in melanoma education partnering with esteemed healthcare providers and medical institutions to educate all ages on the importance of sun safety, provide free skin cancer screenings and connect patients to the latest treatment innovations and compassionate support.

Joseph A. Farkas, Founding Trustee and President of GCRE stated in his opening remarks of the evening that “Garden City shines brightest when its residents come together to support one another and tonight is clearly an example of how the Village has supported a great cause and a great Garden City family.

He further emphasized that GCRE’s mission to support the charities and causes that are important to the Village residents remains the focus of the Garden City Real Estate Professionals Foundations efforts and noted several past recipients of GCRE’s fund raising efforts including Charlies Champions, The Bobby Menges I’m Not Done Yet Foundation (INDY), The Interfaith Nutrition Network (The INN), and the NYU Langone/Winthrop Cancer Center for Kids.

At the Gala, Jack and Maggie Biggane were also presented with a Citation from Nassau County recognizing their 20 years of tireless work promoting the Foundation’s message of sun safety across Long Island and the Metropolitan area.  Elaine Phillips, a candidate for Nassau County’s Comptroller office made the presentation on behalf of Legislature Lauren Schaeffer.  Jack Biggane stated on behalf of Mollies Fund “that the recognition by Nassau County of their family Foundation was incredible and that the work done by Mollies Fund saves thousands of lives each year by simply getting an all-body skin check.  It’s simple, it’s easy and it works.  It’s a SNAP”.  He continued by thanking the efforts of the entire GCRE membership and specifically noting the enormous effort of Amanda Kinney and Lauren Scarantino, the Co-Chairs of the Charitable Events Committee as well as Frank Liantonio, Chairperson of the Charitable Events Committee.
